Guide topic 10

When Should a Business Not Use AI?

AI is not the right tool for every problem. Knowing when not to use it is part of using it well.

AI may not be appropriate when

  • A simple fixed rule already solves the problem
  • The process itself is undefined or broken
  • There is insufficient reliable information
  • Errors would create unacceptable risk without adequate controls
  • The economics do not justify implementation
  • Existing software already solves the problem adequately
  • Required integrations are unavailable
  • The company cannot define who is responsible for exceptions

Automating a bad process makes it faster, not better

Sometimes the correct solution is conventional software, a redesigned workflow, or no new system at all. We would rather tell you that before a project starts.
